Michael Fahey is a lawyer and translator who has lived in Taiwan since 1988. Among his recent translation projects, both published in Taiwan Literature: English Translation Series, No. 50, are the short story “The Ducks” by Chang Shen-chieh and “Snowy Taipei: 1901” by Ming Yu-ping. The former required a particularly complex negotiation of contemporary Chinese vernacular in the 1930s, and the latter required specialized knowledge of the early Japanese colonial period. Other translation projects include thousands of court documents for Winkler Partners (2000 to 2022), over 500 news stories for Formosa Television English News (2004-2008), articles in Taipei Times (2005), and A History of Taiwan in Comics.
