Lya Shaffer is a multidisciplinary designer, literary translator, and writer with roots in Taipei, currently based in Seattle. Lya is an experienced translator of both technical and conceptual writing, with a particular passion for poetry. Her literary translation work to date has received support from the British Center for Literary Translation, the Bread Loaf Translators Conference, and the National Museum of Taiwanese Literature, and she was selected to join the 2025 cohort of the ALTA Emerging Translators Mentorship Program. Lya has produced translations of children’s literature, graphic novels, and creative nonfiction, and is currently working on the translation of Chuanfen Chang’s 流氓王信福. Lya is a co-founder of LightJustice.org, which offers advocacy resources around responsible lighting and beneficial darkness, and serves as the North America Regional Director of Unolai Design.
